About Vincent Wai: Capturing History in Scale
For over 30 years, as a military illustrator and miniature sculptor, my goal is to bridge the gap between a plastic kit and the living, breathing history it represents.
The Art of the Box Cover
To many, it’s just a box. To me, it’s a window into a moment in time. Whether I am illustrating a 1/35 scale German Tiger in the mud of the Eastern Front or a modern Leopard 2A6 defending in Rhine area, I focus on dynamic storytelling and hope to capture the "action" and inspires a builder to pick up their glue and brushes.
Sculpting the Human Element
While illustration allows me to play with light and environment, sculpting allows me to explore form and anatomy. I specialize in high-detail miniature figures, focusing on:
Historical Accuracy: Ensuring uniforms, gear, and weaponry are period-correct.
Anatomical Realism: Capturing natural poses and facial expressions that tell a story.
The Sculptor's Craft: Working across various scales (from 54mm to 1/16) to bring historical figures to life in three dimensions.
Why I Do What I Do
The hobby of military modeling is about more than just plastic and resin; it’s about preserving history and honoring the engineering and sacrifice of the past. Through my website, I am excited to share my latest works-in-progress, finished commissions, and a look behind the curtain at how these miniature worlds are created.
